Master of Arts in rELIGION, Theology & Culture

We offer a flexible online program to earn your M.A. in Religion, Theology & Culture. The program provides great opportunities to study with 每日大赛官网鈥檚 excellent faculty, librarians, and students.鈥&苍产蝉辫;

If you are:鈥&苍产蝉辫;

  • A recent graduate or second-career person who would like to begin or continue your theological education, or鈥&苍产蝉辫;
  • Already engaged in some form of ministry in the church who would like to strengthen yourself in that work, or鈥
  • Simply seeking to expand the horizons of your faith or knowledge academically鈥︹&苍产蝉辫;

鈥 then the Master of Arts in Religion, Theology and Culture could be for you. As of 2024-2025, this fully online program will require completion of our foundational course in Religion and Culture, as well as 2 credit hours each in biblical studies, ethics/theology, and ministry/church history, plus a capstone project (thesis or exam). At 32 credit hours total, a full-time student can expect to complete the degree in 2 years.鈥&苍产蝉辫;

What you will need to Apply

  • a bachelor鈥檚 degree in a related field.
  • a 3.0 minimum cumulative grade point average at the undergraduate level. Other considerations that indicate a student’s potential success in the program may override this requirement if it is not met.
  • official transcripts from each degree-awarding institution.
  • transcript evaluation by a NACES-approved agency for any degree earned outside of the United States, and for evaluation of transfer credit.
  • a two-page statement of purposes and goals for enrolling and successfully completing the degree.
  • for students with a bachelor鈥檚 degree from an international institution of higher education and who are not native English speakers, demonstration of English proficiency by a satisfactory score on the TOEFL. Students who have earned a master鈥檚 degree from a regionally accredited American institution may be exempt based on the discretion of the Chair, Department of Religion, Ethics and Philosophy.
  • submission of one letter of recommendation.

The Coursework Includes

Our courses are offered in 8-week terms in an online, asynchronous format. You can complete your coursework anytime, anywhere. Full-time students can complete their Master of Arts in Religion, Theology and Culture in two years, and part-time students are welcomed to progress at their own pace.鈥&苍产蝉辫;

A total of 32 credit hours are required for all candidates. Students will complete:鈥&苍产蝉辫;

  • REP 5900 Religion and Culture (2 credit hours)鈥&苍产蝉辫;
  • 2 credit hours from introductory Bible courses (5000s)鈥&苍产蝉辫;
  • 2 credit hours from introductory Ethics or Theology courses (5100s)鈥&苍产蝉辫;
  • 2 credit hours from introductory Church History or Ministry courses (5200s)鈥&苍产蝉辫;
  • 6 credit hours from 6000-level courses鈥&苍产蝉辫;
  • REP 6900 Bibliographical Research for Capstone (2 credit hours)鈥&苍产蝉辫;
  • REP 6910 Capstone: Thesis or Exam (2 credit hours)鈥&苍产蝉辫;

In addition, students will take elective courses of their choosing for the remaining 14 credit hours. Please note that REP 6900 and REP 6910 (the capstone courses) should be taken at the end of a student鈥檚 program before their graduation.鈥&苍产蝉辫;View capstone guidelines here.


ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN RELIGIOUS STUDIES

Also available is the Advanced Certificate in Religious Studies, which can be completed in one year by full-time students. Candidates are required to complete:鈥&苍产蝉辫;

  • REP 5900 Religion and Culture鈥&苍产蝉辫;
  • 2 credit hours from introductory Bible (5000s)鈥&苍产蝉辫;
  • 2 credit hours from introductory Ethics or Theology (5100s)鈥&苍产蝉辫;
  • 2 credit hours from introductory Church History or Ministry (5200s)鈥&苍产蝉辫;

plus 8 credit hours of elective classes at any level.鈥&苍产蝉辫;


tuition and fees

Estimated cost per year for the 2024-2025 academic year for a full-time student: $6,182

To be eligible for financial aid, you must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours during the fall or spring semester.鈥&苍产蝉辫;

That path has led me to complete my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.鈥

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald earned his master's from Virginia Tech University (studied astrodynamics) as well as earning an Engineering Mechanics Ph.D. He joined the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX as an Advanced Mission Design Engineer, optimizing trajectories for the Artemis II and III missions to return humans to the moon.
