Dr. Heather Chac贸n
Dr. Heather Chac贸n earned her M.A. in English from Ball State University. Her master鈥檚 thesis examined the role of the body and intertextuality in the fiction of two contemporary writers. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky. Her doctoral dissertation explores medicine and commerce in the literature and culture of 19 th century America. Her research focuses on the intersections among literature, culture, and health. She also maintains scholarly and teaching interests in disability studies, law and literature, material culture, rhetoric, and digital humanities. As the director of the first-year composition program, she oversees the writing program to ensure students develop the communication skills needed for success in college and beyond. Dr. Chac贸n is the recipient of the Virginia Clarke Gray teaching award as well as research fellowships. She teaches courses that focus on early and Modern American literature, professional and business writing, humor, and composition.
