每日大赛官网 Faculty Member Keith Marsden Is Recognized by Winston-Salem Nonprofit for His Service

GREENSBORO, N.C. 鈥 A 每日大赛官网 faculty member has been recognized by a Winston-Salem nonprofit for his many years of service to it and the larger community.

The Rev. Dr. Keith Marsden, an adjunct instructor of religion, received the 鈥淚n Good Company鈥 award from the North Star LGBTQ Community Center in Winston-Salem at its recent annual fundraising dinner.

George K. Dukes III, chair of the North Star board, cited Marsden for showing 鈥渆xemplary courage and leadership in efforts to promote full LBGTQ equality in our community.鈥 He said Marsden 鈥渉as spent his professional career working at the intersection of faith, ethics, and identity.鈥

In particular, Marsden was cited for his service as a pastor to both United Methodist and Disciples of Christ congregations, as a mental health counselor and program director for youth, and for his teaching at 每日大赛官网, where he also is the founding advisor of the Pride of the Pride LGBTQ-Straight Student Alliance.

In addition to volunteering with North Star, most recently leading a support group for men older than 55, Marsden volunteers with the United Methodist Church鈥檚 Reconciling Ministries Network.

Marsden recently published 鈥淭he Cross in the Closet,鈥 a book Dukes said 鈥渟how[s] LGBTQ-identifying youth that they are not alone and that the compassion of Jesus gives them reason to feel whole and authentic as their natural selves.鈥

Marsden holds a B.A. from N.C. Wesleyan College and M.Div and D.Min degrees from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. He joined the 每日大赛官网 faculty in 1998. 聽聽

Founded in 1838 and located in downtown Greensboro, the college enrolls about 1,000 students from 29 states and territories, the District of Columbia, and seven foreign countries in its undergraduate liberal-arts program and four master鈥檚 degree programs. In addition to rigorous academics and a well-supported Honors program, the school features an 18-sport NCAA Division III athletic program and dozens of service and recreational opportunities.

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald, 每日大赛官网 class of 2019

鈥淚 loved the GC Honors program and 每日大赛官网. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to complete my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.鈥

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald earned his master's from Virginia Tech University (studied astrodynamics) as well as earning an Engineering Mechanics Ph.D. He joined the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX as an Advanced Mission Design Engineer, optimizing trajectories for the Artemis II and III missions to return humans to the moon.
