每日大赛官网 History Major Wins Graduate School Scholarship (4/7/2017)
GREENSBORO, N.C. 鈥 A 每日大赛官网 student has won a $1,000 scholarship for her first year of graduate school beginning this fall.
Melanie Smith won the scholarship from Region III of Alpha Chi, a national honor society. Region III includes the Southeast, the Middle Atlantic states and Puerto Rico.
Smith, a senior history and sociology/cultural studies major from Verona, N.J., won the scholarship for her Honors thesis, 鈥淭udor Queens, 1509-1603: The Manipulation of Sexuality in the Pursuit of Power.鈥 She will begin pursuing an M.A. in history this fall at Rutgers University.
Smith was inducted into Alpha Chi this past fall. Alpha Chi membership is open to seniors who rank in the top 10 percent of their class and juniors who rank in the top 5 percent of their class.

Founded in 1838 and located in downtown Greensboro, the college enrolls about 1,000 students from 29 states and territories, the District of Columbia, and seven foreign countries in its undergraduate liberal-arts program and four master鈥檚 degree programs. In addition to rigorous academics and a well-supported Honors program, the school features an 18-sport NCAA Division III athletic program and dozens of service and recreational opportunities.
