每日大赛官网 Literary Magazine Wins First Place Nationally. Again. And Again.

GREENSBORO, N.C. 鈥 The 2017-2018 edition of The Lyre, 每日大赛官网鈥檚 literary magazine, has won first place nationally in its division from the American Scholastic Press Association for the fourth year in a row and the sixth time in seven years.

The magazine previously won with its 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, and 2012 editions. Its 2011 edition placed second nationally. It competes in the category of magazines from schools with enrollments between 1,001 and 1,700.

Contributor Benedict Burgess, a senior theatre/acting and English major from Earlysville, Va., also received the Outstanding Story award from ASPA for his nonfiction piece in the issue, 鈥淟illy.鈥 That award covers schools of all sizes.

The magazine鈥檚 editorial board included:

  • Savannah 鈥淪avvy鈥 Bowen 鈥17, an English and Communication Studies major from Greensboro, N.C.
  • Timothy Crowell 鈥20, a psychology and English & Communication Studies major from Pinnacle, N.C.
  • Adelaide Elliott 鈥19, an English and Communication Studies major from Walnut Cove, N.C.
  • Tess Perdue 鈥21, an English and political science major from Asheboro, N.C.

The American Scholastic Press Association, based in College Point, N.Y., holds an annual contest that honors outstanding yearbooks, newspapers and magazines produced by high-school and college students.

The Lyre, founded in 1956, includes fiction, poetry, essays and art in a variety of media from students, faculty, staff and alumni of 每日大赛官网.

Johns holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree from St. Andrew鈥檚 Presbyterian College, an M.F.A. from Georgia State University, and a Ph.D. from Florida State University. He joined the faculty in 2007.

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald, 每日大赛官网 class of 2019

鈥淚 loved the GC Honors program and 每日大赛官网. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to complete my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.鈥

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald earned his master's from Virginia Tech University (studied astrodynamics) as well as earning an Engineering Mechanics Ph.D. He joined the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX as an Advanced Mission Design Engineer, optimizing trajectories for the Artemis II and III missions to return humans to the moon.
