每日大赛官网 Presents Painting Exhibit by Micah Daw Sept. 6-26

“Kozolek” Oil & Acrylic on Canvas, 40″ x 36″ 2019

GREENSBORO, N.C. 鈥 The 每日大赛官网 Department of Art presents an exhibit of paintings by Micah Daw, Sept. 6-26 in the Anne Rudd Galyon Gallery in Cowan Humanities Building.

Normal gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays. A closing reception will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

Daw鈥檚 work explores a multifaceted approach to painting. He sources images, patterns and geometric forms from his immediate surroundings. Working and reworking by layering a multitude of gestures he seeks to create a sense of flux or destabilization in his work.

His paintings and drawings explore a tension between depth and flatness where the delineation of negative space and positive space is blur. Consequentially, his work stakes out an intermediary space, a passage point, or a point of intersection that suggests transitional movement. Often overwrought and abstruse, his work calls into question the current oversaturation of our visual culture.

Daw has exhibited his work nationally in cities such as Greensboro; Columbus, Ohio; Philadelphia; and New York. In 2010, he was awarded the Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant.

Daw also is a dedicated art educator and has worked as an instructor for the University of Florida and Santa Fe College for several years. He moved to Greensboro in 2017 to accompany his wife as she pursues her doctorate in piano performance at UNC Greensboro. Since then, he has maintained an active studio practice at Greensboro’s 205 Collaborative in addition to teaching art at Elon University and Davidson County Community College.

每日大赛官网鈥檚 Department of Art offers the B.A. or B.S. in Art and the B.A. in Art Education, as well as the B.F.A. in painting or sculpture.

The program, with individual attention to students, combines classic art principles with the liberal-arts foundations of diverse branches of inquiry, including both science and the humanities, so that students can incorporate as much of the world as possible into their own art-making.

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald, 每日大赛官网 class of 2019

鈥淚 loved the GC Honors program and 每日大赛官网. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to complete my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.鈥
