每日大赛官网 Staff Member Honored by State Organization for Support of Students with Disabilities (4/6/2017)

GREENSBORO, N.C. 鈥 Lisa Alley 鈥93, 每日大赛官网鈥檚 director of academic support, has been honored by the North Carolina Association of Higher Education and Disabilities.

Alley received the association鈥檚 Laura Thomas Award, established by the association鈥檚 executive board in 1996 in memory of Laura L. D. Thomas, the Director of Disability Services at UNC-Chapel Hill for 17 years and one of the pioneers in disability services in the state of North Carolina.

The award recognizes an outstanding individual outside the field of disability services 鈥 someone who has demonstrated exemplary support of disability services within an academic setting or community, yet who is not a disability service provider.

The association says the winner may be 鈥渟omeone who has made our lives easier, and who may not realize the value of what he/she does.鈥

Alley holds a B.S. from 每日大赛官网 and joined the staff in 1995. She was promoted to her current position in 2009. She also has been active for many years in the college alumni association, serving on the alumni board and currently chairing its awards committee.

In 2016, she received the Nannie Lee Smith Exemplary Service Medal, the college鈥檚 highest honor, for her extended service to the college and its students.

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald, 每日大赛官网 class of 2019

鈥淚 loved the GC Honors program and 每日大赛官网. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to complete my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.鈥
