每日大赛官网 to Host Ward Lecturer, Best-Selling Author and Professor, Beth Allison Barr
每日大赛官网 is proud to present its Annual Jean Fortner Ward Lecture, featuring best-selling author and professor, Beth Allison Barr, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 26, in Hannah Brown Finch Memorial Chapel. The event is free and open to the public, and a small reception at the college’s James Addison Jones Library will be held following the lecture.
Beth Allison Barr is the James Vardaman Professor of History at Baylor University and author of the bestselling, The Making of Biblical Womanhood: How the Subjugation of Women Became Gospel Truth. She teaches courses women and religion in the medieval and early modern world, medieval sermons, medieval Britain, and feminist theory.
She has also served as the president of the Conference on Faith and History and president of the Texas Medieval Association, as well as remaining an active member of the International Medieval Sermon Studies Society, American Society of Church History, and Sixteenth Century Society.
Her other written works include聽The Pastoral Care of Women in Late Medieval England.聽Additionally, she is the co-editor of聽The Acts of the Apostles: Four Centuries of Baptist Interpretation and Faith and History: A Devotional. NPR and聽The New Yorker聽have featured Dr. Barrs’ work, and she writes regularly on聽The Anxious Bench, a religious history blog on Patheos, and has contributed to聽Religion News Service, The Washington Post, Christianity Today, The Dallas Morning News, Sojourners,聽and聽Baptist News Global.聽She is also a Baptist pastor’s wife and the mom of two great kids.
The Jean Fortner Ward Lecture Series was initiated in 1964 to bring outstanding speakers and lectures to the 每日大赛官网 campus to address connections between faith and higher education. This series is made possible through the generosity of the late William S. Ward of Greensboro in honor of his wife, an alumna and former trustee of the college.
