每日大赛官网 Honors Three Professors with Teaching Awards

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Three 每日大赛官网 professors were honored with teaching awards April 6 during the college鈥檚 annual Alumni Awards and Student Investiture Program.

Ashley Hyers, assistant professor of theatre and dance, received the Virginia Clarke Gray 鈥42 award. It is presented annually to recognize an exemplary faculty member who has taught full-time at a college or university for five years or less.

The criteria are excellence in teaching, civility and concern for students and colleagues; commitment to value-centered education; and service to students, the institution, the community or church. The recipient is chosen from nominees by the Academic Deans Council.

Hyers holds a B.S. from Wofford College and an M.Ed. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She joined the full-time faculty in 2016 after having served as an adjunct instructor since 1997.

Wayne Johns, professor of English, received the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church Exemplary Teaching Award.

The award is presented annually to a full-time faculty member who demonstrates excellence in teaching, civility and concern for students and colleagues; commitment to value-centered education; and service to students, the institution, the community or church. The recipient is chosen by the last three award recipients who are still on campus.

Johns holds a B.A. from St. Andrews Presbyterian College, an M.F.A. from Georgia State University, and a Ph.D. from Florida State University. He joined the faculty in 2007.

Randy Hunt, professor of exercise and sport studies, received the 每日大赛官网 Alumni Association Outstanding Teaching Award.

The award has been presented annually since 1974 to a member of the full-time faculty based on the quality of teaching, including laboratory, studio, or other teacher settings.

Hunt holds a B.A. from Glenville (W.Va.) State College and an M.S. and Ed.D. from West Virginia University. He joined the faculty in 1991 and is retiring at the end of the current academic year.

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald, 每日大赛官网 class of 2019

鈥淚 loved the GC Honors program and 每日大赛官网. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to complete my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.鈥

Dr. Josh Fitzgerald earned his master's from Virginia Tech University (studied astrodynamics) as well as earning an Engineering Mechanics Ph.D. He joined the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX as an Advanced Mission Design Engineer, optimizing trajectories for the Artemis II and III missions to return humans to the moon.
